How to add card payments to a coin-op self-serve car wash

Quarters are a dwindling business. Fewer customers carry cash, the ones who do resent hunting for change, and every trip to refill a coin changer is time you do not get back. Meanwhile the expectation set by every other business a driver visits is simple: tap a card, or a phone, and go. The good news for a self-serve operator is that you almost never have to replace your bays to meet it.

Two ways to add cards, and only one that makes sense

The first option is a full rip-and-replace: new machines with card readers built in. It works, but it is the most expensive path by a wide margin, and it throws away equipment that is often mechanically fine.

A standalone card reader bolted onto a coin box gets you card payments and nothing else. The reason to run payments through the platform is everything that rides on the same rails once a customer taps:
